Welcome to The Enchanted Cottage! Our doors have been open since 1985. There is so much to see and do in southeastern Pennsylvania that you will need overnight accommodations, although the romantic Cottage is a destination in itself.
Located 45 miles northwest of Philadelphia in the rolling farm and orchard country of the Pennsylvania Dutch, the Cottage, in a clearing in the woods and separate from the main house, is built in a rustic style. Downstairs in the large living room with its exposed beams and flagstone floor are an open fire and a kitchenette in case you want to prepare a snack. Upstairs are an air conditioned bedroom and adjoining Laura Ashley bath with claw foot tub where the ladies like to take bubble baths. A full gourmet breakfast is served in the main house, on the screened porch or beside a blazing fire, according to season. The property, with its picturesque buildings, has been included on house and garden tours.
We--Richard and Peg, your host and hostess--are active in traditional crafts and knowledgeable about nearby attractions. Let us know your interests and we will try to point you in the right direction. Within easy driving distance are the Amish area, antique shops, old automobile and aircraft museums, a cave to explore, Valley Forge, the Reading outlets, Daniel Boone Homestead, Longwood Gardens, Wyeth Country, Winterthur, the music festival in Historic Bethlehem, Pottsgrove Mansion, a restored iron-making village, country auctions, flea markets, two book barns, the Renaissance Faire, bird watching at Hawk Mountain, golf, tennis, and skiing.
Or maybe you're only looking for a weekend getaway from the stress of city life, the demands of children, or a high pressure job--and just want to unwind--read that book, poke the fire, amble down the road to visit goslings on their pond. Peace and quiet. As our only guests, you'll have plenty of that. Our guest book lists many honeymooners and couples celebrating special occasions.
The Bed & Breakfast experience may be a modern way to savor the ancient art of hospitality. Staying here is like visiting old friends. With fresh flowers and complimentary wine and cheese, we offer an informal but gracious lifestyle in a storybook atmosphere.
$100-110. Prices are for two persons. One person is $10 less. All prices + 6% tax.
Breakfast includes such specialties as marinated fresh fruit, shirred eggs and bacon, and popovers with homemade jam.
From the traffic light at the intersection of Route 100 and Niantic Road just south of the town of Bally, take Dairy Lane W. 1/4 mile. Bear left at the stop sign onto Old Route 100. Proceed 1/2 mile and turn right onto Forgedale Route. Continue 4 miles to the Landis Store Hotel. Turn left in front of the hotel onto Landis Store Road. Drive 4/10 mile and turn left onto Deer Run Road. The dirt lane to The Enchanted Cottage is 75 yards further on the left with a yellow mailbox.
